Oil Fertification

OIL FORTIFICATION
Oil fortification involves adding fortified nutrients including Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E & essential fatty acids. Vitamin A deficiency is a major health concern. Oil fortified with Vitamin A can significantly contribute to reducing the prevalence of night blindness & other night related concerns. Vitamin D, the “sunshine vitamin”, Fortifying edible oils with vitamin D can help combat vitamin D deficiencies, major cause of bone issues. We have developed a standard to guarantee that fortified oils meet the required nutrient levels and are safe for consumption.

Fortification Process

- Oil fortification is the process of adding essential micronutrients, such as vitamins A, D, or E, to edible oils to improve their nutritional value.
- This practice is commonly implemented in countries facing deficiencies in these vitamins to address public health concerns.
- Fortified oils maintain their taste, quality, and cooking properties while providing added health benefits.
- Governments and organizations often mandate or promote oil fortification to combat malnutrition and enhance overall community health.
Benefits

Benefits Of Oil Fertification
- Improved Nutritional Intake: Fortified oils help address deficiencies in essential vitamins like A, D, and E, promoting better immune function, vision, and bone health.
- Enhanced Cognitive and Physical Development: Fortified oils support children’s growth and cognitive development, reducing risks of developmental delays.
FSSAI Recomendations

- Mandatory Fortification: It mandates fortification of edible oils with Vitamin A (6-9 mg/kg) and Vitamin D (10-12.5 µg/kg).
- Standardized Levels:The fortification levels are designed to ensure adequate intake without risk of overconsumption.
- Logo and Labeling: Fortified oils must display the +F logo, indicating compliance with FSSAI’s fortification standards.
